劇講述了曆經四代的韓國移民家庭的故事。故事始於一段禁忌的愛戀，並擴展為跨越韓國、日本與美國三地，關於希望與夢想、和平、愛與失落、勝利與算計的史詩傳奇。 從朝鮮到日本，四代移民家庭的恩怨糾葛，大時代的巨光照在每一個小人物的身上，都留下了一道崎嶇的陰影，生生地拖著他們的軀體前行。從1920年日本殖民時期的韓國漁村，到日本大阪，經曆了二戰和朝鮮戰爭，一直到90年代末日本泡沫經濟時代的橫濱和東京乃至紐約。在這樣複雜的曆史背景下，全劇著重描繪了幾代人在家族與故鄉、融入與歸屬、金錢與信仰等一係列問題上的關係與矛盾。
